Get It Done & Get Back to Living Your Life!
Approximately 70-80% of people have not completed any end-of-life planning documents. (Thoughts, intentions and conversations are important, but they do not carry much decision-making weight.)
Many of the 20-30% who have done something have not done enough. They’ve made out a will and perhaps an Advance Directive for Healthcare (a “living will”). Maybe they’ve done a bit more.
But they haven’t made their hopes and intentions clear to their circles of care or organized the directives, consents and the other important information their loved ones will need to access rapidly in a crisis.
I don’t think this is because they’re reckless or uncaring. I think it’s due to a combination of critical factors:
It can be difficult or painful to consider our own mortality.
Planning and organizing for illness, injury or the end of life can bring up unresolved or deep grief that we don’t want to feel - grief for loved ones we have lost, grief for other losses in our lives (relationships, dreams, goals, aspirations, more).
So much is involved - even while necessary tasks remain so unclear - that it is easy to feel overwhelmed, unsure where to start, and worried about doing it incorrectly.
Putting off this kind of practical and emotional work is so easy to do that “waiting until I have more time” is a natural default, especially given the uncomfortable subject matter, the complexity of life and personal information management in today’s world, and our expectations that dozens of hours (if not more) will be required of us once we start.
The good news? Heartful Transitions and The Peace of Mind Plan™ meet you where you are. Whether you have completed at least some critical planning for serious illness, injury or the end of your life - or if you haven’t completed anything at all and don’t know where to start - you can begin to take real, meaningful action by utilizing our resources and/or contacting us to schedule a planning session.
We’ll walk you through our simple, step-by-step process, give you the supplies and education you need to be successful, and provide coaching and ongoing support as you tackle this important work. All so you can get it done, get it “off your plate,” and get back to living your life.
Watch this space (heartfultransitions.org) over the next days, weeks and months, as we add resources (daily!) that you can use to maximize your peace of mind - and your loved ones’ peace of mind, as well - when it comes to planning and organizing for the unexpected and (let’s face it!) unwanted that comes to all of us in life, sooner or later.
